Duo Astrea

Biography

Kate and Katie started performing together in September 2006 when they were invited to give a recital at the Royal Society of Medicine. The overwhelmingly positive response to their performance that night led them to forming Duo Astraea and they have continued performing together, regularly playing recitals in London and across the South of England. The flute and the harp are always a popular choice for recitals and formal events. Together they are unreservedly sensual in sound, with a purity not often found in music. There is a lot of fabulous music written for this combination, including Alwyn’s Naiades and Damase’s Sonata for Flute & Harp. Duo Astraea presents appealing and varied programmes tailored to suit the needs of their audiences. Solos from both harp and flute are included in the programming giving audiences a possibly rare opportunity to hear a cappella flute works as well as solo harp pieces. Duo Astraea also transcribes music for performance, bringing new life to keyboard, instrumental and vocal works from Bach sonatas to contemporary music. Their high standards of performance and excellent organisational skills have led to Duo Astraea being regularly re-booked by major companies and organisations.
