Biography

Raven’s pieces are entirely original arrangements, created by viola player Natalie Holt and violinist Kirsty Mangan. Prior to being in Raven, Natalie was working composer's production assistant and additional orchestrator on ‘Stardust’ and ‘Hannibal Rising’ It was whilst recording the closing credits for the latter with Take That at Abbey Road that she met Scottish violinist Stephanie Benedetti. Stephanie has been successfully freelancing in duos, string quartets and symphony orchestras in Europe and the Middle East since graduating. Kirsty Mangan led the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain at the age of eighteen under Sir Simon Rattle at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. Kirsty met Rachael Lander on the bus to school when they were both eleven. They were featured together in the Stockport Express Newspaper aged thirteen as a duo, Two of a Kind. Twelve years later, they are still playing together. Rachael has since worked with the Halle orchestra and The Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Members of Raven have performed and recorded with artists such as Gorillaz, Jools Holland, Leona Lewis, Gwen Stefani, Hayley Westenra and Heather Nova. Raven recently performed at Reading and Leeds festival with Mercury nominated band The Last Shadow Puppets as part of the London Metropolitan Orchestra. In the summer of 2008, Raven were the resident quartet on the BBC 2 programme Maestro, aiding celebrities such as Alex James, David Soul and Goldie get to grips with their conducting. Most recently Raven recorded and filmed the music for an episode ITV’s ‘Inspector Morse’ spin-off, Lewis which will be shown in the new year. Raven’s debut performance took place in Hoxton at Gabriel Prokofiev’s ‘Non-classical event’ as featured in Time Out Magazine. A week later they performed at a Harmonic charity event at the Dover St Arts Club for Classic Fm. The girls have recently recorded their first album ‘Raven’ at Pinewood Studios.
