Seal Ensemble

Biography

The Seal Ensemble is a collaboration between soprano Amy Carson and harpist Katie Flanaghan after discovering how rich and beautiful selected works from the classical repertoire for Soprano could be when accompanied by Harp instead of Piano/Orchestra. Together they have explored different musical styles ranging from some of the first music ever written down for voice and lute, such as Dowland and Purcell to contemporary works by composers like Dominick Argento. Not all the repertoire can be suitably adapted and therefore careful choices have been made. Programming includes; Lieder, Bel Canto songs and arias, English song, Folksong arrangements by Britten, French Chansons, arias from the baroque period and lighter repertoire such as Gershwin and Novello. In combining their unique qualities, Amy and Katie have created an unusually intimate and alluring ensemble, which strives to achieve the highest standards of performance and to appeal to a variety of audiences across the world. Although primarily appearing in recital, Amy and Katie also enjoy performing in wedding ceremonies and private functions.
